Fiona Barnett
PGCE BMus(Hons) DipABRSM
Professional Background
I have been playing the Piano and the Flute for over 20 years. I have Grade 8 Piano from Trinity and a Diploma in Flute Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Having studied Music at Surrey University and gaining a Bachelor Degree in Music with Honours in 2007, I went to Roehampton University and studied Primary teaching and graduated with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). During my time at Surrey University, I studied Flute with Ian Clarke, Piano with Mari Nagahashi and Concert Performance with Clive Williamson. I now work as a Flute and Piano Teacher.
I have more than 10 years experience in teaching music to over 1000 students, including individual lessons, group lessons, masterclasses, whole class lessons and assemblies. I am passionate about Music and encourage pupils to enjoy their learning and feel confident to perform if they choose to. Graded examinations are a great way to mark the achievement and progression in learning a musical instrument and I have prepared many pupils for Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations with a 100% pass rate. I have experience teaching a wide range of ages from beginners to advanced and I am fully CRB checked. I have also recently (November 2014) undertaken safeguarding training.
